Goho - blocking and striking
Shorinji Kempo incorporates a variety of kicks, punches, blocks, and other direct attacks. A guiding principle behind our practice is "defense is primary, while offense is secondary" leading many of our striking techniques to be effective responses to all manner of attacks.

Juho - escaping and throwing
Shorinji Kempo offers many responses to being grabbed by an opponent. From simple escape techniques to various throws, take-downs, pins, and joint locks. Shorinji Kempo stresses technique, positioning, and leverage over physical strength, creating a style that anyone can learn and practice, regardless of age or physical condition.

Sparring - practical training
Shorinji Kempo is not just an art for personal development, but is also a system for self defense. We employ a variety of drills, equipment, and supervised sparring sessions to build skills and confidence in a safe and supportive environment.

Embu - combining techniques
Blending from hard techniques into soft techniques requires practice and experience. In Shorinji Kempo we work with partners to compose short demonstrations. It's a fun and creative way to combine multiple kinds of training at the same time.
